Description

This natural and scenic charming tour will immerse you in the typically mediterranean atmospheres of Sicily west coast at the slow pace of the bike. It is also adviced for families with children since the route is easy and mainly plain. The area you will explore, rich of wonderful architectural remains, will amaze you for its vivid and contrasting colours, especially at sunset, for its food delicacies and for the warmth and the hospitality of its local communities.

Tour Plan

DAY 1: TRAPANI

Independent arrival in Trapani and check-in at selected hotel. Brochures, gps tracks, and hotel voucher collection, bike test. Optional free time to visit Trapani independently.

 

DAY 2: TRAPANI – FAVIGNANA – TRAPANI

Total km by bike: approx. 10 – Total ascent: negligible Route characteristics: 100% plain, 60% asphalt + 40 % gravel road – Level of difficulty: easy

After brakfast, the plan includes a relaxing bike day in Favignana. The next stop will be at the harbour and its fish market  Conseguentemente con le bici ci si dirigerà di primo mattino verso il porto peschereccio ed il suo mercato del pesce per assistere to enjoy the traditional “abbanniata”, a shout to sell the freshly caught fish. Later, you will ship to Favignana by ferry, a short 45 minutes journey. Once in Favignana, you will circumnavigate it to enjoy its natural beauties (coves, crystal-clear sea and tuff quarries) and in the meantime a relaxing seaside day; before sailing back to Trapani, you can visit the Tonnara Museum and its ancient fishing heritage.

 

DAY 3: TRAPANI – ERICE – TRAPANI

Total km by bike: approx. 50 (42 reaching Erice by cableway) – Total ascent: approx. 200 m reaching Erice by cableway ; 950 m reaching Erice by bike  Route characteristics: 15% uphill and 85% plain, 90% asphalt + 10 % gravel road – Level of difficulty: easy (reaching Erice by cableway); challenging (reaching Erice by bike)

After breakfast, the next step will be Erice, a medieval village located at 750 m above sea. You can choose to reach Erice by bike, facing a challenging 7.5 km uphill or by cableway carrying your bike. Once in Erice, you can sneak into its medieval alleys and discover its wonderful hidden corners and breathtaking views on the Egadi archipelago, as well as taste the popular “bellibrutti” and “tette di monaca”, typical almond pastries. After this priceless visit, you will face a downhill towards Trapani, admiring along the road the amazing landscape of the Tyrrhenian Sea, the Egadi archipelago and the Trapani coastline. You will get to Custonaci and its marble caves, the impressive “Mangiapane Cave“, used as home of the living nativity scene during Christmas, and finally Cornino and Pizzo Cofano Natural Reserve, where you can enjoy a break with a refreshing bath. From there, head to Tonarra di Bonagia crossing a traffic-free coast road before going back to Trapani. Once in Trapani, charming tour of its old town and back to the hotel.

 

DAY 4: TRAPANI – MARSALA

Total km by bike: approx. 42 – Total ascent: negligible –  Rote characteristics: 100% plain, 90% asphalt + 10 % gravel road – Level of difficulty: easy

Breakfast at the hotel and last look at the beauties of Trapani, before leaving for Trapani and Paceco Salterns Natural Reserve, where you can admire its landscape vivid colours, marked by saltern mountains, sea and typical mediterranean greenery, as well as the windmills used for salt processing. If you are lucky, you can even ride into some species of mediterranean migratory birds living in the Reserve (inside it you can visit the Nubia Salt Museum, included in the official guide of European Union Mediterranean museums, collecting the ancient wotking tools used to process the salt). You will keep riding through the Trapani coast enjoying the stunning views on the Egadi islands until the pier to Mozia Island, accessible by boat. Finally, head to Marsala, popular for the landing of Garibaldi and the Thousand and for the same-named Marsala wine production. After a visit of its old town and an optional visit of its historical wine cellars or the Baglio Anselmi Museum, you can reach the selected hotel.

 

DAY 5: MARSALA

Breakfast at the hotel, bike collection and end of service. Some free time to relax on the beaches of the Lilybaeum coast. You can choose to extend your holiday in Marsala upon request.

    CANCELLATION TERMS & CONDITIONS:

    • 28-14 days before the start date of the tour, you will be charged 50% of the total paid amount
    • 13- 5 days before the start date of the tour, you will be charged 70% of the total paidamount
    • 4 days before the start date of the tour or no show, you will be charged 100% of the total paid amount

     

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

    Comfortable footwear and sportswear are recommended.

    Individual tour for children and adults with minimal training. E-bike is advised for amateurs or untrained people. For organisational, climatic or legal reasons, beyond our will, the route could be modified before and/or during the holiday. Along the road, for instance, temporary deviations for roadworks could be impossible to foresee.
