Description

The tour, of enormous naturalistic and landscape charm, will immerse you at the slow pace of pedaling in the typically Mediterranean atmospheres of the west coast of Sicily. It is also recommended for families with children due to the ease of the route, mostly flat. The area you will explore, rich in amazing architectural testimonies of the past, will also amaze you for its strong contrasting colors especially at sunset, for the culinary delicacies that you will have the opportunity to taste and also for the warmth and hospitality of the local communities.

DAY 1: TRAPANI

Individual arrival in Trapani. Check-in and room accommodation in the selected accommodation facility. Collection of information material, GPS tracks, accommodation vouchers, test of the rented and adequately equipped bike. Any time available to visit Trapani individually.

DAY 2: TRAPANI – FAVIGNANA – TRAPANI

Total km by bike: about 10 – Total ascent stage: irrelevant Route characteristics: 100% flat, 60% asphalt + 40% roughly dirt road – Stage difficulty level: easy

After breakfast at the hotel, the program includes a relaxing day on a bicycle in Favignana. Consequently with the bikes we will head in the early morning towards the fishing port and its fish market to assist where after a short visit to the fishing port, where if you are lucky you can attend the classic “abbanniata”, shouts with which the auction for the sale of fish directly from the fishing boat that has just returned. Subsequently, after validating your vouchers at the ticket office, you will board the ferry to Favignana which you will reach after about 45 minutes of navigation. Once you reach Favignana, you can go around the island which will allow you to appreciate the natural beauties (coves and crystal clear sea, tuff caves) and at the same time enjoy a relaxing day by the sea; before embarking on the ferry to return to Trapani you can visit the Tonnara Museum with its evidence of fishing from the past.

DAY 3: TRAPANI – ERICE – TRAPANI

Total Km by bike: about 50 (42 with ascent to Erice by cable car with bike in tow) – Total ascent stage: irrelevant, about 200 meters if you reach Erice by cable car; 950 meters in case you decide to make the climb to Erice. Route characteristics: 15% uphill and 85% flat, 90% asphalt + about 10% of dirt road and / or flat cobblestones – Level difficulty stage: easy if you reach Erice by cable car; challenging if you choose to reach Erice by bicycle

After breakfast, the itinerary includes the ascent to Erice, a medieval village of Elima origin located 750 meters above the sea above the city of Trapani. Erice you can choose to reach it by choice or directly by bicycle with a challenging 7.5 km climb or by cable car bringing the bike in tow. In Erice you can enter the medieval alleys of the village and discover its enchanting corners and suggestive views of the Egadi archipelago and taste the famous “bellibrutti” and “nun’s breasts”, almond paste sweets typical of the place. After visiting this splendid jewel set on Monte di San Giuliano which dominates the entire coast of Western Sicily from above, we will face the descent towards Trapani, being able to admire along the way the wonderful scenarios of the Tyrrhenian Sea, the Egadi archipelago and the coasts of the province of Trapani. You will reach Custonaci with its marble quarries, the evocative “Grotta Mangapane”, used as a location for a living nativity scene during the Christmas holidays, and finally the Pizzo Cofano and Cornino Nature Reserve, where you can enjoy a break with a nice refreshing bath. From here, along a coastal road mostly closed to vehicular traffic, you will reach the Tonnara di Bonagia before returning to Trapani. Arrived in Trapani after an evocative tour of the historic city center with its alleys, streets and monumental buildings, return to the hotel.

DAY 4: TRAPANI – MARSALA

Breakfast and last look at the beauties of the city of Trapani, before leaving to reach the Saline di Trapani and Paceco Nature Reserve, where you can observe the splendid colors of the surrounding landscape, characterized by mountains of harvested salt, sea and typical Mediterranean vegetation , the mills once used for salt processing. In some cases, you will have the chance and luck to come across some species of Mediterranean migratory birds present in the ponds of the reserve (inside the Reserve there is the Nubia Salt Museum, included in the official guide of the European Union dedicated to museums del Mediterraneo, located inside a baglio, an ancient seventeenth-century farm-fortress used for the milling of salt, with the large adjoining windmill, the museum collects and preserves the ancient working tools of the salt workers and many old photos in black and white, testimony of a work that with the times has also adapted to new technologies. We will continue along the Trapani coast with the splendid views of the Egadi islands up to the landing stage for the island of Mozia, reachable by boat ( possibility on the island to visit the Whitaker Museum with its beauties). Finally we will reach the city of Marsala, famous for the landing of Garibaldi and the Thousand and for the production of the homonymous wine or Marsala. After an easy tour of its historic center and a possible visit to one of its historic cellars (possibility of taking a guided tour and tasting of wines and typical local products) and / or to the Baglio Anselmi Museum where the find of a Punic ship, you can reach the hotel selected for room accommodation.

DAY 5: MARSALA

Breakfast at the hotel, bicycle delivery at the end of the services. Time at your disposal to relax along the beaches of the lilibeo coast. On request it is possible to extend the stay in Marsala.

    It is advisable to wear comfortable shoes, sportswear and to bring a helmet and a water bottle with you.

    Individual tour for people and also families with children with a minimum of athletic preparation. The pedal assisted bike is recommended for those who do not regularly use the bicycle and do not have a minimum of athletic preparation.

    For organizational, climatic reasons or related to provisions of local authorities beyond our control, the itinerary may undergo more or less considerable changes before and / or during the holiday. Along the route, for example, there may be temporary deviations due to road construction sites that are impossible to predict and which are normally reported on site.
